In a move that underscores the Federal Government’s commitment to youth empowerment and regional revitalization, the Ministry of Regional Development on Thursday officially handed over the Agadagba-Obon Skills Acquisition Centre, located in Ese-Odo Local Government Area of Ondo State, to the Federal Ministry of Youth Development.

The formal handover ceremony was held at the office of the Minister of Regional Development, Engr. Abubakar Momoh, FNSE, at the Federal Secretariat in Abuja.

Delivering his remarks, the Minister of Youth Development, Hon. Ayodele Olawande, who received the facility on behalf of his ministry, described the Centre as a strategic asset in addressing youth unemployment, skills gap, and economic exclusion in the Niger Delta. He assured that the Centre will be activated promptly and tailored toward technical and vocational empowerment for young Nigerians.

“This Centre will not just house programs—it will unlock potential. We intend to hit the ground running with actionable youth-focused interventions,” the Minister stated.

In his keynote address, Engr. Abubakar Momoh, Honourable Minister of Regional Development, emphasized the project’s alignment with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, noting that the facility was designed not only to provide employable skills, but to stimulate peace, productivity, and long-term development across the Niger Delta.

“We are proud to hand over a facility equipped with lecture halls, ICT laboratories, administrative buildings, hostels, and even sporting infrastructure. These aren’t just structures—they are solutions to decades of disconnection between youth and opportunity,” he remarked.

The Agadagba-Obon Centre is one of nine such Centres initiated across the Niger Delta region, focusing on specialized areas such as Oil & Gas, Agriculture, ICT, Construction Engineering, Commerce, and Tourism.

It is equipped with state-of-the-art infrastructure, including an Administrative Block, fully furnished ICT Library, Conference Hall, Lecture Rooms, Research Laboratories, Male and Female Hostels, a Medical Clinic, and dedicated workshop spaces for hands-on technical training. To foster holistic development, the Centre also features a football arena, lawn tennis courts, an indoor sports hall, and landscaped recreational areas, offering young people a balanced environment for both learning and wellness.

Bringing the event to a close, the Minister of State for Regional Development, H.E Uba Maigari Ahmadu,, delivered the vote of thanks, commending all partners and stakeholders for their resilience and cooperation.

“This milestone is a reflection of what collaboration between ministries can achieve. We thank the Honourable Minister of Youth, our technical teams, and all who worked behind the scenes to make this project viable.”

The Agadagba-Obon Centre stands ready—not just as an edifice, but as a beacon of hope for thousands of youths across the Niger Delta region.
