According to DailyTrust, Zainab, heavily pregnant during the violence, shared her harrowing experience of the deafening gunfire and witnessing people being killed. She described feeling a sharp pain in her lower abdomen, leading to her baby slipping out while she stood in the open, devoid of medical assistance or a conducive environment.

Zainab recounted, “When I noticed that the baby was coming out, I knelt immediately to ensure the baby was safely delivered. There was no medical assistance, sterilized equipment, or conducive atmosphere.” A neighbor, Shafa’atu, bravely stopped to help her amidst the chaos, as others fled due to the lack of a nearby hospital and the ongoing curfew.

As of Wednesday afternoon, Zainab and her newborn faced challenges accessing medical care and basic necessities due to the continued gunshots and the curfew. Zainab expressed concern about the whereabouts of her other children and husband.

Shafa’atu, the neighbor who assisted in the delivery, shared her own uncertainties about her husband’s whereabouts and one of the orphans in her care. Another woman, Maryam, revealed the heartbreaking discovery of her husband’s decapitated body after escaping from her burnt house and destroyed belongings.

Maryam said, “I became worried about my kids and started calling my husband’s phone to know where he was. The phone kept ringing and no one to pick, and thereafter, it was switched off.” Husseina Salihu Maisaje, the sister of Maryam’s husband, confirmed the tragic discovery of her brother’s decapitated and burnt body.
