Additionally, the minister disclosed that the Federal Ministry of Environment has recently established an interagency committee. This committee will facilitate extensive consultations across various sectors, including government, businesses, and other stakeholders, with the aim of devising a comprehensive and context-sensitive solution to tackle the issue of single-use plastics in Nigeria.

Salako highlighted that the ministry is actively reviewing policies and initiatives geared towards promoting the production of viable alternatives to traditional plastics. He emphasized the pressing need to address the current unregulated and indiscriminate use of plastics, urging Nigerians to brace themselves for imminent changes in this domain, including the impending ban on specific plastic products.

To bridge the transition, the minister advised Nigerians to adopt personal and deliberate environmental practices, such as reducing and reusing plastics. Furthermore, he encouraged the exploration of the growing recycling market for plastic waste disposal. The Ministry of Environment is gearing up for an extensive awareness campaign and sensitization effort in the coming days to prepare the Nigerian populace for the unavoidable ban on certain plastics and to promote a holistic approach to waste management.
