According to a security source in the vicinity, the attackers targeted a man’s household, taking three of his children—two girls and one boy. However, in a sinister twist, they released the boy and reportedly sent him back with a chilling message to the family. The boy was tasked with delivering the demand for a staggering N30 million ransom for the safe release of his sisters.

The gunmen, described as having changed their modus operandi, allegedly forced their way into the house without opening fire immediately. The family, originally from Calabar, sought refuge in the vigilante’s office and the commander’s residence. By the time authorities were alerted and arrived at the scene, the perpetrators had already fled. The kidnappers reportedly resorted to shooting as they made their escape.

The mother of the kidnapped girls attempted to negotiate with the gunmen, requesting that her daughters be allowed to wear warmer clothing due to the cold weather. Instead, the mother was reportedly subjected to physical assault, and the girls were taken away in their nightgowns.

The swift and calculated nature of the abduction, coupled with the demand for a substantial ransom, has heightened concerns within the community. Vigilante groups, in their efforts to trace the kidnappers, reached the railway line and rocky terrains but were met with an elusive trail.

The affected family is identified as a prominent contributor to community security efforts, raising questions about the potential motives behind this targeted kidnapping. As the community awaits further updates on the investigation, the incident underscores the urgency of addressing the rising menace of kidnappings and the need for enhanced security measures in the FCT.

Efforts to obtain an official response from the FCT police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, have been unsuccessful as of the latest reports. The community remains on edge, awaiting developments and hoping for the safe return of the abducted sisters.
