Wike Speaks On 2027 Election, Reveals Why Tinubu Has Strong Support In FCT

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has expressed confidence in President Bola Tinubu’s prospects in the FCT during the 2027 presidential election, pointing to ongoing infrastructure projects across the territory as a major factor that could influence voters.

Wike made the remarks on Thursday while inspecting the ongoing Apo-Karshi and Bwari-Kubwa road projects in Abuja. He said the Tinubu administration had expanded infrastructure development beyond the city centre to satellite communities that had previously experienced limited attention.

According to Bush Radio Academy, the FCT Minister argued that the impact of completed and ongoing projects would give residents tangible evidence with which to assess the administration ahead of the 2027 election.

Wike maintained that effective governance should be measured by visible results and the ability of government to address the needs of citizens. He said the administration had moved beyond promises by implementing projects that directly affect residents across the territory.

“If governance is a barometer to measure whether a government has succeeded or not, then we have nothing to fear,” Wike said, expressing confidence in Tinubu’s electoral prospects in the FCT.

The minister also criticised opposition campaign messages, arguing that political opponents would have to present concrete achievements to voters rather than rely solely on promises. According to him, the Tinubu administration could point to verifiable infrastructure projects as evidence of its performance.

Wike further stated that the Renewed Hope Agenda had changed the approach to infrastructure development in the FCT by extending projects to satellite towns instead of concentrating development within the Abuja city centre.

He specifically highlighted the Apo-Karshi and Bwari-Kubwa road projects as examples of the administration’s efforts to improve connectivity and infrastructure in communities outside the central districts.

The minister said the broader distribution of development was important because residents in satellite towns also deserved access to quality infrastructure and government services.

Wike’s comments come as political activities intensify ahead of the 2027 general elections, with different political groups positioning themselves and mobilising support for their preferred candidates. His remarks represent his assessment of how the Tinubu administration’s record in the FCT could affect voter decisions.
