Mr Macaroni Breaks Silence On Why He Took A Break From Government Criticism

Nigerian actor and social commentator Adebowale Adedayo, popularly known as Mr Macaroni, has explained why he reduced his public criticism of the government after years of speaking out on political and social issues.

According to Bush Radio Academy, Mr Macaroni made the clarification during an interview with Wazobia FM, where he said his decision was influenced by the constant backlash he received from Nigerians, threats connected to his activism and frustration over repeatedly raising the same concerns without seeing the changes he hoped for.

The actor said he had consistently spoken about issues affecting Nigerians but had become tired of repeating the same messages, particularly when he felt citizens were not showing enough willingness to demand better governance.

“Forget about the threats. My issue with us as Nigerians is how we move on quickly. We complain and move on. There is nothing I will say now that I haven’t already said hundred times over. Until we as a people are ready to fight for what is ours, saying the same thing over and over again is just TIRING,” he said.

Mr Macaroni also disclosed that he had faced persecution, criticism and threats since he began publicly speaking against government policies. He said the threats became particularly serious during the End SARS period, when members of his family were reportedly worried about his safety.

“I have been persecuted and vilified since I started speaking up against Government. Threats are a usual occurrence. Please don’t mix things up. I am only tired of saying the same thing over and over again,” he stated.

According to the actor, the situation became so concerning during the End SARS protests that his family repeatedly contacted him out of fear, with his mother among those who urged him to consider leaving the country.

He, however, said he refused to leave Nigeria and continued speaking publicly after the protests, including encouraging citizens to vote wisely during the subsequent election period.

Mr Macaroni explained that he also faced intense criticism from some Nigerians after expressing his personal voting preference, stressing that he had not instructed everyone to support the same candidate.

He said the experience contributed to his decision to take a break from the constant political commentary while focusing on redefining himself and his artistic career.

“When Nigerians are finally ready, I will be ready too! But till then, please let me continue enjoying my break by redefining myself and Art, which I love as dearly as I love Nigeria,” he said.

Reflecting on the broader situation, the actor expressed frustration that people who speak about issues affecting Nigerians can sometimes become targets of criticism from the same citizens they seek to represent.

Mr Macaroni maintained that he remains concerned about the country but questioned what more he could say after repeatedly raising similar issues.

“Now, everything don dey as e be. Is affecting me too. But what, okay, okay, oya, what should I come and say again now?” he said.
