The Nigerian naira recorded a fresh decline against the United States dollar at the official foreign exchange market on Wednesday, with the local currency weakening from the previous trading session.

Data from the Central Bank of Nigeria showed that the naira traded at ₦1,329.2129 per dollar on Wednesday, compared with ₦1,320.2469 recorded on Tuesday. The movement represents a weakening of the naira at the official market.

At the parallel market, the dollar was reportedly exchanged at about ₦1,390 on Tuesday, although rates offered by Bureau de Change operators and other dealers may vary depending on location, demand, supply and transaction margins.

The difference between official and parallel-market rates means that individuals and businesses may encounter varying dollar prices when purchasing or selling foreign currency.

Market participants are expected to continue monitoring foreign exchange inflows, dollar demand and policy measures from the Central Bank of Nigeria as the naira’s performance remains under close observation.

According to Bush Radio Academy, the latest movement highlights the continued volatility in Nigeria’s foreign exchange market, with both official and parallel-market rates remaining important indicators for businesses, travellers and other users of foreign currency.
