Nigerian journalist Oseni Rufai has reminded Nigerians of the claim made earlier by the former Governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El-Rufai, regarding the money spent on fuel subsidy, despite the price nearing 900 naira per litre.

On Wednesday, it was reported that fuel subsidy may gulp up to 5.9 trillion naira, as disclosed by the Nigerian Government, after previous claims that it was scrambled by the sitting President, with several attempts to deny reports of their administration paying for subsidy.

This disclosure occurred during the presentation of the Accelerated Stabilisation and Advancement Plan (ASAP) report, which outlines strategies to address critical challenges and stimulate growth across various sectors.

The projected subsidy cost for 2024 marks a significant increase from ₦3.6 trillion in 2023 and ₦2.0 trillion in 2022, highlighting a continuous upward trend in government spending on fuel subsidies.

Commenting on the widely circulated report, Oseni Rufai claimed:
