Nation In Peril: 241 Dead, Nearly 145,000 Displaced As Flood Ravages 123 LGAs Across Nigeria

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has reported that flooding has affected 433,578 people across 27 states and 123 local government areas in Nigeria as of November 4, 2025.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Data from NEMA’s 2025 flood dashboard, accessed on Sunday, November 9, 2025, indicates that 144,790 individuals have been displaced, while 241 people have lost their lives nationwide. Additionally, 839 persons were injured, and 115 remain missing.

The floods have damaged 52,509 homes and destroyed 74,767 hectares of farmland, leaving thousands of families without shelter or livelihoods. Among those affected are 82,820 men, 133,407 women, 197,566 children, 19,985 elderly persons, and 2,503 persons with disabilities.

States Worst Hit
Adamawa State recorded the highest number of victims with 60,608 affected and 23,077 displaced. Lagos followed with 57,951 affected and 3,680 displaced, while Akwa Ibom reported 51,813 affected and 44,732 displaced.

Other significantly affected states include:

  • Imo: 34,589 affected, 17,454 displaced

  • Taraba: 28,107 affected, 4,465 displaced

  • Rivers: 26,710 affected, 9,645 displaced

  • Kaduna: 24,240 affected, 1,237 displaced

  • Edo: 18,373 affected, 7,681 displaced

  • Kebbi: 16,918 affected, 5,718 displaced

  • Sokoto: 15,675 affected, 4,566 displaced

  • Delta: 14,057 affected, 3,325 displaced

  • Jigawa: 13,302 affected, 409 displaced

  • Abia: 11,907 affected, 4,896 displaced

  • Borno: 8,164 affected, 2,436 displaced

  • Niger: 6,041 affected, 1,860 displaced

  • Cross River: 5,646 affected, 5,518 displaced

  • Bayelsa: 5,868 affected, no displacement

  • Yobe: 4,256 affected, 486 displaced

  • Katsina: 4,061 affected, 557 displaced

  • Gombe: 4,098 affected, 865 displaced

  • Kano: 3,901 affected, 21 displaced

  • Ondo: 3,735 affected, 363 displaced

  • Kogi: 2,825 affected, no displacement

  • Kwara: 2,663 affected, no displacement

  • Nasarawa: 749 affected, 749 displaced

  • FCT: 1,025 affected, no displacement

Regional Impact
The South-South region has been hardest hit, with 122,000 affected and 71,000 displaced. Other regions impacted include:

  • North-East: 105,000 affected, 31,000 displaced

  • North-West: 78,000 affected, 13,000 displaced

  • South-West: 62,000 affected, 4,000 displaced

  • South-East: 53,000 affected, 23,000 displaced

  • North Central: 13,000 affected, 3,000 displaced

Challenges and Immediate Needs
NEMA cited multiple obstacles in relief operations, including resource shortages (60%), inaccessibility (18%), security risks (9%), community resistance (8%), and coordination gaps (4%).

The agency stressed urgent needs for food, shelter, water, sanitation, health services, and livelihood support. Additional requirements include nutrition assistance, education support, protection services, and security.

NEMA affirmed that it continues to collaborate with state authorities and humanitarian partners to scale up emergency response efforts nationwide.
