Security was notably increased both inside and around the National Assembly, with personnel from various security agencies stationed at key entry and exit points. The National Assembly management also imposed restrictions on business activities within the complex. All ancillary services, including food vendors and banking operations, were suspended for the day. Visitors and non-essential staff were instructed to stay away, and only essential staff with proper accreditation, along with a select group of reporters, were allowed entry.
On Monday, the Federal Executive Council (FEC) approved an estimated expenditure of ₦47.96 trillion for the 2025 fiscal year. President Tinubu is set to formally present this figure to lawmakers. The budget is expected to prioritize infrastructure development, fiscal consolidation, and social investment programs, outlining the administration’s spending focus for the coming year.
Senate President Godswill Akpabio and Speaker of the House of Representatives Abbas Tajudeen will oversee the joint session, where lawmakers will scrutinize the budget and its allocations, particularly in light of ongoing economic reforms. During his presentation, President Tinubu is expected to highlight critical sectors such as healthcare, education, security, and infrastructure, while also addressing concerns regarding inflation, unemployment, and the high cost of living.
