Alao Babatunde, the spokesperson for Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, the Minister of Interior, confirmed this development on Thursday.
“I can confirm that NIMC is now housed within the Ministry of Interior,” stated Alao.
He further explained that the decision to relocate NIMC to the Ministry of Interior was taken to ensure the highest level of security for all citizens.
The integration of NIMC with the Ministry of Interior aims to enable seamless and efficient operations for all agencies involved in identity data collection and management, as well as the protection of citizens’ lives.
Alao emphasized the importance of having a comprehensive database for internal security, stating, “When we talk about internal security, how can you secure people for whom you don’t have accurate data? It is essential to possess the database of the individuals you aim to safeguard. This integration will facilitate better coordination and improved functioning of all agencies involved.”
