Governor Uba Sani of Kaduna State has expressed dismay over the state of 32 General Hospitals in the region, revealing they have not seen renovation in the past two decades. This neglect has forced citizens to seek medical treatment in neighboring states. Addressing stakeholders from the state’s 23 Local Government Areas, Governor Sani highlighted another pressing issue: over 1,500 schools in eight frontline LGAs lack proper fencing.

Despite the sorry state of these hospitals, Governor Sani’s administration has pledged to initiate remodeling, reconstruction, and equipping of six of these hospitals in the first phase, with two in each senatorial zone. In alignment with the Safe School Initiative, two prominent business figures, Alhaji Adamu Atta and Alhaji Bukar Shettima, have committed to fencing 100 schools.

Governor Sani emphasized healthcare and education as key priorities. He noted that neglecting these sectors for two decades has left them in dire need of attention. With the alarming situation of the schools highlighted by the recent kidnapping incident in Kuriga, the government is intensifying efforts to ensure the safety and security of educational institutions. Additionally, partnerships with private sectors and development partners aim to address various challenges, including road infrastructure and agricultural support, with a focus on rural revitalization.

The governor also acknowledged support from various quarters, including the German embassy, the African Development Bank, and the Vice President’s office, in initiatives aimed at enhancing agricultural value chains and supporting farmers. This comprehensive approach underscores the government’s commitment to addressing critical issues affecting the state’s development.
