Governor Bago emphasized that the intention is not to negotiate, but to engage the bandits in dialogue and encourage them to reintegrate into society by abandoning their arms.
“We have offered bandits an opportunity for amnesty, and we are engaged in discussions with them to find an amicable solution to the problem.
We are prepared to provide amnesty, recognizing the significance of peace and security for developmental progress. This is a sincere call,” he stated.
It should be noted that Governor Bago had previously expressed his administration’s intention to initiate talks with bandits, alongside the implementation of non-military strategies against them.
His commitment to dialogue was reinforced during a meeting with President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, remarked that the Governor is intensively addressing the state’s security challenges.
He noted that some of the efforts are not disclosed publicly due to security reasons, but assured that President Bola Tinubu is tirelessly working to restore peace across the nation.
