Bago delivered this message during a retreat organized by the State Ministry for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, titled ‘Empowering Local Government Leaders for Sustainable Development: Strategies, Challenges, and Opportunities,’ held at the State Liaison Office in Abuja.
He emphasized that local governments, particularly those in rural areas, should leverage their inherent strengths by concentrating on agriculture and its related sectors. He highlighted the potential for income generation through agricultural activities.
The state’s Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Mu’azu Hamidu Jantabo, explained that the retreat aimed to enhance the capacity and improve the effectiveness of service delivery by local government chairmen in the state.
He stated that the retreat was designed to provide valuable and transformative experiences for council chairmen, focusing explicitly on empowering them as leaders to facilitate sustainable development at the grassroots level.
The event served as a platform for sharing knowledge, building capacities, and establishing networks to enhance the leadership abilities of the council chairpersons and enable them to contribute significantly to the development of Niger State.
