Force Public Relations Officer, DCP Muyiwa Adejobi, disclosed this in a statement issued on Sunday.
The operation, carried out in partnership with INTERPOL NCB Beijing and the Chinese Embassy in Nigeria, highlights the Police Force’s unwavering commitment to combating transnational organized crime.
Dai Qisheng, a notorious gang leader wanted in Guizhou Province, China, was accused of masterminding and leading violent criminal operations. He fled China in 2024 after a warrant for his arrest was issued by the Public Security Bureau of Zhijin County and sought refuge in Nigeria.
However, operatives of INTERPOL NCB Abuja tracked and arrested him in Abuja on August 8, 2025. He was subsequently repatriated to Beijing on August 15, 2025, under the established framework of police-to-police cooperation coordinated by INTERPOL.
According to the statement, “This operation not only reinforces the Nigeria Police Force’s determination to ensure that no fugitive finds safe haven within Nigeria but also demonstrates the power of international cooperation in tackling the growing threats of global crime networks.”
Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olukayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D., NPM, reaffirmed the Force’s resolve to strengthen international alliances through intelligence-sharing and joint operations, stressing that borders will never serve as barriers to justice.
He further emphasized that the arrest and repatriation of Dai Qisheng sends a strong warning to criminals across the globe that “Nigeria will not be a sanctuary for fugitives.”
