Reports indicate that the “Take-It-Back Movement” has organized a protest across the country for Monday, April 7, 2025, in protest against government policies. In response, police spokesperson, ACP Muyiwa Adejobi, urged the organizers to call off the planned protest.

Adejobi expressed concern about the timing of the protest, pointing out that it coincides with National Police Day, a day designated by the Federal Government to honor the dedication and resilience of the Nigeria Police Force. He argued that the decision to hold the protest on the same day as this significant event seemed intentional and could tarnish the image of the Police Force.

In his statement, Adejobi said, “The Nigeria Police Force has learned that a group called the ‘Take it Back Movement’ plans to stage a protest in various states, particularly in the Federal Capital Territory, on Monday, April 7, 2025, which coincides with the National Police Day celebration. This day is dedicated to recognizing the contributions of the Nigeria Police Force to national security and will see dignitaries from both within and outside the country, including Foreign Inspectors-General of Police and diplomats, in attendance.”

He continued, “While we respect citizens’ right to peaceful assembly as enshrined in the Constitution, we find the motive behind such a protest on the same day as National Police Day questionable. It appears to be a deliberate and unpatriotic act that could damage the image of the Police Force and the nation.”

The NPF advised the organizers to cancel the protest, describing it as poorly timed and mischievous. The police force, under the leadership of Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, reaffirmed its commitment to fulfilling its duties lawfully and respecting citizens’ rights. They encouraged the protest organizers and participants to pursue dialogue and engage the relevant government institutions to voice their concerns.
