According to reports, Adelabu emphasized the government’s commitment to improving electricity access, especially in rural areas, during a recent meeting in Abuja with Egypt’s Ambassador to Nigeria, Mohammed Fouad.

In a statement released on Sunday by Adelabu’s spokesperson, Bolaji Tunji, it was revealed that the meeting focused on enhancing bilateral cooperation in energy expansion, with particular attention to renewable energy and rural electrification.

Adelabu praised Egypt’s achievements in the energy sector, calling it a role model for energy infrastructure development. He highlighted Nigeria’s interest in learning from Egypt’s experience in energy generation, transmission, and distribution, noting that Egypt’s success had led to collaborations with Siemens to stabilize Nigeria’s power sector.

“Egypt has made significant progress in energy transformation, and we are eager to collaborate and learn from your expertise. Our goal is to ensure reliable, stable, and affordable energy access for all Nigerians,” Adelabu stated.

He acknowledged the difficulty of connecting all rural communities to the national grid due to economic constraints but reassured that renewable energy would be utilized to bridge this gap and provide reliable electricity to rural areas. Adelabu also mentioned securing substantial investments, including $750 million from the World Bank’s DARES project and $190 million from the Japan International Cooperation Agency, to support the renewable energy initiative.

Ambassador Fouad expressed Egypt’s enthusiasm for collaborating with Nigeria, particularly in addressing the metering gap and sharing best practices for energy access. He stressed the shared objectives and mutual benefits of deepening bilateral ties between the two nations.

“Nigeria and Egypt have a lot in common, and there is great potential for collaboration in the energy sector. We are committed to working together to achieve sustainable energy solutions for both countries,” Fouad added.
