During a press conference held in Abuja, Dr. John Umoren, the Chairman of the MRC, laid out the committee’s vision for the future of e-sports.

Umoren stated, “E-sports has evolved into a global phenomenon, presenting significant opportunities for wealth creation. Our objective is to leverage the potential of electronic sports to stimulate investment, generate employment, and contribute to Nigeria’s GDP.”

The MRC’s strategic plan encompasses a series of activities aimed at mobilizing stakeholders, resolving differences, and organizing elections for the leadership of the new federation. These steps are deemed crucial for overcoming the current challenges faced by the e-sports community in Nigeria.

“As the world rapidly advances with digital and technological progress, e-sports stands at the forefront of this movement. Nigeria must not lag behind. We must establish a federation that represents our nation on the world stage,” continued Dr. Umoren.

The committee emphasized the urgent need for a proactive approach to e-sports, aligning it with the professional structure recognized globally. The MRC affirmed its commitment to constructing a world-class E-Sports Federation capable of attracting top-tier competitions and collaborating with the world’s leading sports brands.

Concerns were raised about the current leadership trends in e-sports, perceived as hindrances to the growth of a robust e-sports presence both locally and internationally. In response, the MRC has resolved to form a neutral committee to create an inclusive environment for all stakeholders.

“We invite all stakeholders to join us in this journey, reconcile any differences, and work towards a consensus that will benefit the administration of e-sports in Nigeria,” added Dr. Umoren.

The committee’s formation and activities have garnered strong support from the Federal Ministry of Sports Development. Dr. Umoren expressed gratitude to the ministry for their confidence and reiterated the MRC’s dedication to fulfilling its mandate with equity, fairness, and the spirit of sportsmanship.

With this significant step, Nigeria is positioned to join the ranks of nations embracing the economic and social benefits of e-sports. Stakeholders and interested parties are encouraged to follow the developments as they unfold in the coming months for further information and updates on the MRC’s progress.
