Kalejaiye was found guilty of committing the offenses on December 5, 2019, at around 10:30 am in Ayeka, New Site, via Okitipupa, Ondo State. He faced a two-count charge related to attempting to kill Adeola Olabisi Kalejaiye, contravening Section 320 of the Criminal Code Law, Cap 37, Vol.1, Laws of Ondo State of Nigeria, 2006.
To establish its case, the prosecution, led by State Counsel Helen Falowo Esq, presented three witnesses and three exhibits during the trial. In defense, Kalejaiye and one other witness testified, with the defendant pleading not guilty.
The court held that the prosecution successfully proved the case beyond a reasonable doubt, and Justice Fasanmi noted the absence of remorse from the defendant for his actions.
Despite considering the defense counsel’s allocutus, Justice Fasanmi emphasized that the law’s position is binding. The court acknowledged that evidence indicated the defendant had brutally attacked his wife, causing extensive injuries to her body.
