According to DAILY POST, the incident occurred on Tuesday when Nigerian Army troops intervened in the Samaru community in Zaria to disperse protesters. The troops were enforcing a curfew imposed by the Kaduna State Government.

In a statement issued on Tuesday night, Army spokesperson Onyema Nwachukwu confirmed the arrest of the officer responsible for the shooting. The statement detailed that on August 6, 2024, troops responded to a distress call about a large group of individuals in Samaru who were burning tires and throwing stones at security personnel.

The troops were mobilized to disperse the crowd and enforce the curfew. Upon arrival, the situation escalated as the protesters attempted to attack the soldiers, leading one soldier to fire a warning shot. Tragically, the shot resulted in the death of Ismail Mohammed.

The statement concluded, “The soldier involved in the incident has been arrested and is currently undergoing interrogation.
