This directive was announced by Henshaw Ogubike, the Director of Information and Public Relations at the Ministry of Defence, in an official statement. The government emphasized that this move demonstrates its unwavering commitment to restoring peace and security in the region, following increasing concerns over the activities of terrorists and bandits.

The statement noted that while in the North-West, the officials will oversee military operations aimed at eradicating the notorious bandit leader Bello Turji and his gang. The directive comes in the wake of a recent incident in Kwashabawa, Zurmi Local Government Area of Zamfara, where bandits recorded and circulated a video of a Nigerian military armored vehicle stuck in a waterlogged area, celebrating their perceived victory after forcing military officers to withdraw to avoid an ambush.

The government expressed its disapproval of the incident, stressing that President Bola Tinubu has been providing strong support to the Nigerian Armed Forces. The Federal Government reiterated its deep concern over the ongoing threat posed by banditry and terrorism in the North-West and pledged to deploy all necessary resources to ensure these criminal elements are eradicated and peace is restored to affected communities.
