The chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ola Olukoyede, has made a startling revelation, claiming that some religious organizations in Nigeria are “more corrupt” than public offices.

Speaking at a Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) leadership conference in Lagos on Friday, July 14, Olukoyede disclosed that the EFCC recently recovered “many millions” from a religious organization.

Olukoyede accused religious leaders of being hypocritical, highlighting that they often point out flaws in others while ignoring their own. He urged clerics to use their platforms not only for preaching but also to demonstrate good character to their congregations.

“Just this last week, I have had cause to recover many millions from a religious organization,” the EFCC chairman said.

He criticized some pastors for becoming “big men” after their appointments, questioning their sources of income and suggesting that they live off the ministry and church funds without legitimate means of earning a living.

“Some religious organizations are more corrupt than public offices. I have evidence of that. You look at the speck in someone else’s eye, but meanwhile, there is a log in yours,” he stated.

In January, Olukoyede revealed that the EFCC had uncovered a religious sect laundering money for terrorists in Nigeria.
