Umar-Farouq faced hours of interrogation from EFCC’s crack detectives, delving into various issues related to the accusations against her. The substantial sum in question has raised eyebrows and prompted a thorough investigation into the financial dealings during her tenure as a minister.
Despite the gravity of the allegations, the EFCC, in line with its new policy, opted to release Umar-Farouq on bail following the initial round of questioning. However, the former minister has been summoned to return for another session of interrogation on Tuesday.
A source close to the investigation revealed, “We have been grilling her for many hours on all the issues we have isolated for her. In line with our new policy, we will allow her to go home. She will, however, come on Tuesday for another round of interrogation.”
This development comes at a time when the EFCC has been implementing a more robust approach to handling high-profile cases, ensuring thorough investigations before taking legal action. The decision to release Umar-Farouq on bail could be seen as a step in accordance with due process, allowing the former minister an opportunity to address the allegations and present any relevant information in her defense.
As the investigation unfolds, the public awaits further details regarding the specific charges, evidence, and the outcome of the subsequent round of questioning scheduled for Tuesday. The case highlights the ongoing efforts to address corruption within the Nigerian government and underscores the importance of holding public officials accountable for their actions.
