Nigerians React As Senate! Lawmakers Warn Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan to Steer Clear of Chambers
The Nigerian Senate has issued a strong warning to suspended Senator representing Kogi Central, Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, advising her to stay away from the Senate chambers on Tuesday.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
This warning follows the embattled lawmaker’s declaration that she would resume plenary duties, citing a judgment by Justice Binta Nyako of the Federal High Court in Abuja. However, the Senate insists there is no binding court order requiring her immediate reinstatement.
Senator Yemi Adaramodu, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Media and Public Affairs, clarified in a Sunday statement that the court merely offered a non-binding advisory suggesting a possible review of the suspension—not a directive. He emphasized that the court found no legal violation in the Senate’s disciplinary action, which was based on Natasha’s conduct during plenary. Adaramodu also pointed out that the court had earlier found the Senator in contempt, issuing a ₦5 million fine and instructing her to issue a public apology in two national newspapers and on her Facebook page—orders she has yet to comply with.
Reaffirming the Senate’s position, Adaramodu stressed that any attempt by Senator Natasha to forcefully return to the chamber without following due process would be considered a disruption and a breach of legislative order. He added that the Senate will, in due time, consider the court’s advisory on reviewing its Standing Orders and Natasha’s suspension, and will formally communicate any decision to her. Until then, she is advised to respect the rule of law and remain away from the chamber.
