Nigerians Stranded! NRC Shuts Down Abuja-Kaduna Train Route Indefinitely

The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) has indefinitely suspended train operations on the Abuja-Kaduna route following Tuesday’s derailment incident.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

NRC Managing Director, Kayode Opeifa, confirmed the suspension while briefing journalists in Abuja. He explained that technical teams from the corporation, alongside officials of the Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB) and other relevant agencies, are currently investigating the cause of the derailment.

Opeifa dismissed speculations that the trains were poorly maintained, stressing that the NRC has already begun processing ticket refunds for all affected passengers. He further revealed that six passengers sustained minor injuries, all of whom have since received treatment. However, the exact number of passengers onboard is yet to be confirmed.

Meanwhile, the NSIB has launched a full investigation into the incident, which occurred around 11:09 a.m. at KM 49 between Kubwa and Asham stations. In a statement signed by its Director of Public Affairs and Family Assistance, Mrs. Bimbo Olawumi Oladeji, the Bureau disclosed that a “go-team” of investigators had been deployed to the site to gather evidence and liaise with stakeholders.

NSIB Director-General, Captain Alex Badeh Jr., assured Nigerians of a transparent investigation, noting that the findings would help prevent future accidents. He expressed sympathy for the injured passengers and reaffirmed the Bureau’s commitment to enhancing the safety of rail transport in the country.
