In a message posted on his official X handle in commemoration of Nigeria’s 64th independence anniversary, Sani compared Nigeria’s post-colonial challenges with those of other former British colonies. He highlighted that many of these nations have advanced by embracing their diversity rather than dwelling on the blame of colonialism.

Sani pointed out that, like Nigeria, other countries across the globe that were colonized by Britain, including the United States, Canada, and various nations in Asia and the Americas, have faced similar histories. However, they have moved beyond blaming their colonial past and instead focused on nation-building.

He emphasized that the key distinction between Nigeria and these countries is their approach to overcoming their colonial legacy. “The British forcefully united us into what is now called Nigeria, just as the French, Portuguese, Belgians, and Spanish did in other African nations and regions around the world. Countries like the US and Canada also emerged from British, French, and Spanish colonization,” Sani noted.

He further explained that the difference lies in the fact that these nations have not remained stuck in blaming their colonial history. Instead, they have learned to harness their diversity and work towards building a better future despite their own nationhood challenges.
