In an interview with Arise TV while discussing the President’s Independence Day speech, Gebi shared that Boko Haram has been diminished by 82% and ISWAP by 75%.
He stated, “This is the first time we are seeing a highly coordinated response to insecurity, with mission-specific targets. The Chief of Defence Staff even mentioned that notorious bandit leader Turji is now a focus. For the first time in Nigeria’s history, specific individuals are being directly targeted, leading to the elimination of top-level terrorist leaders.”
Gebi praised the National Security Advisor and the military for their efforts, likening their coordination to a well-conducted symphony. He also noted that the military’s impact extends beyond combat, citing their aid to flood victims in Borno State as an example of their broader role in serving the nation. Additionally, Gebi emphasized the importance of proper military equipment in enabling effective operations.
He continued, “The recent response to the flooding in Maiduguri demonstrated the military’s capability, supported by the right equipment such as amphibious vehicles. This shift from procuring the wrong equipment to investing in what is necessary shows Nigeria’s evolution. The military’s response has greatly improved, and this success must be maintained to avoid a rollback in progress.”
Gebi concluded by reiterating that the harmonization of military operations and consolidated efforts have been key to recent successes in combating insecurity across the country.
