In a communiqué released following an emergency National Executive Council (NEC) meeting on Wednesday in Abuja, NLC President Mr. Joe Ajaero, alongside General Secretary Mr. Emmanuel Ugboaja, called for urgent action to address the ongoing economic hardship.

The communiqué outlined NEC’s demand for the reversal of “ill-conceived policies” contributing to the current economic crisis. The NEC also called for an independent investigation into the recent violence against protesters, insisting that those responsible be held accountable and justice be delivered to victims and their families.

Ajaero emphasized the need for immediate release of all peaceful protesters who have been detained unlawfully and unconstitutionally.

The NLC President also urged the Federal Government to engage in meaningful dialogue with protest representatives, civil society organizations, and other stakeholders. He called for immediate relief measures, including direct food aid, subsidies on essential commodities, and other social safety nets to support workers and the general populace.

Additionally, Ajaero directed workers nationwide to ensure their safety during the protests, maintaining non-violence and lawful conduct as they express their demands.
