Justice James Omotosho directed the temporary relocation of the court’s registry into the courtroom after Kanu complained that he had been denied access to properly submit his legal documents.
Following the court’s directive, Kanu personally began filing his defence processes within the courtroom.
Lead prosecuting counsel, Adegboyega Awomolo (SAN), informed the judge that the prosecution was prepared to receive the documents directly and respond accordingly.
As of the time of this report, filing was still ongoing, prompting Justice Omotosho to stand down proceedings for one hour.
Before Friday’s development, Kanu had refused to open his defence, insisting that the Federal Government must first cite the specific terrorism law he allegedly violated.
Meanwhile, Kanu’s family has accused the Department of State Services (DSS) of deliberately frustrating his efforts to prepare for trial.
In a statement signed by Prince Emmanuel Kanu, the family alleged that the IPOB leader’s access to his lawyers, relatives, and key witnesses had been severely restricted, warning that such actions amounted to a denial of his constitutional rights.
“The DSS has made it almost impossible for Mazi Nnamdi Kanu to have proper access to his lawyers, family members, and key witnesses,” the statement read.
