The Nigerian Senate spokesperson, Senator Yemi Adaramodu, has dismissed claims that the federal government paid ransom to secure the release of victims recently freed from kidnappers in Kebbi, Niger, and Kwara States.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Speaking on Friday during an interview with Channels Television, Adaramodu, who represents Ekiti South senatorial district, clarified that while the government may have engaged with the bandits through various forms of negotiation, no money was exchanged for the victims’ release.
He emphasized that specific operational details might not be made public, as they fall under national security protocols.
“From the National Assembly’s perspective, the Federal Government did not pay any ransom. If there was contact with the bandits, it could have been through force, persuasion, or a combination of both,” Adaramodu stated.
Addressing concerns over the lack of visuals or reports of captured kidnappers following the rescue operations, the senator explained that this does not mean there was no confrontation between security forces and the bandits.
“Bandits often abandon their victims and prioritize escaping when faced with superior firepower. Just because you haven’t seen the abductors captured or neutralized doesn’t mean there wasn’t a serious clash,” he added.
Adaramodu also revealed that the Senate has established an ad-hoc committee to investigate the circumstances surrounding the Kebbi school abduction.
