In a statement released by his Chief Press Secretary, Fred Itua, marking his first anniversary in office, Okpebholo revealed that nightlife has gradually returned to Edo after years of violence and insecurity.
On matters of security, governance, health reforms, and the upcoming 2027 elections, the governor emphasized that leadership thrives on respect but warned that public safety demands uncompromising action.
“We warned them. They tested us. We acted decisively,” he said, confirming the arrest of criminals and demolition of gang hideouts.
Regarding kidnapping, Okpebholo noted that Edo has turned a corner. “Over 300 vigilante personnel have been trained and deployed, contributing to three consecutive weeks of reduced crime. Edo is not a place for criminals,” he declared. He also reaffirmed strong backing for State Police initiatives, describing grassroots policing as central to Nigeria’s future security framework.
Highlighting healthcare reforms, the governor described the sector as “comatose” before his tenure. He confirmed that more than 80 primary healthcare centers have been renovated across all 18 local government areas, with newly recruited doctors and nurses deployed and retained through improved pay. He recounted a former deputy governor personally thanking him after a mother’s community received its first-ever resident doctor.
On infrastructure, Okpebholo pointed to the revitalization of the Edo Line, now strengthened with 50 new CNG buses in addition to the 100 previously delivered under his administration.
Turning to politics, the governor expressed confidence that the APC remains the dominant force ahead of the 2027 elections. “We promised 2.5 million votes, and we are not joking,” he said, noting that President Tinubu’s support has enhanced the party’s appeal across the state. He cited ongoing projects like flyovers at Ramat Park and Adesuwa, as well as new road networks along Sapele Road, as proof that performance—not propaganda—will define the political landscape in 2027.
