The attacks, which occurred on Christmas Eve, targeted 25 communities across Barkin Ladi, Bokkos, and Mangu local government areas of Plateau State, resulting in the tragic loss of over 150 lives and extensive property damage.
Governor Sule, accompanied by counterparts from Niger and Benue states, described the prolonged attacks as unacceptable and urged the Federal Government to thoroughly investigate the root causes and find a lasting solution. He emphasized the need for unity and peace in Plateau State, recalling the harmonious coexistence that once prevailed in the region.
Expressing their solidarity with Governor Mutfwang, Governor Sule highlighted the importance of engaging religious leaders in dialogue to promote peace among the people. He drew attention to the urgent need for a comprehensive solution to the security challenges, urging the Federal Government to address the matter promptly.
Governor Mutfwang expressed gratitude for the governors’ concern and emphasized the collective responsibility of the North Central states in combating banditry. He called for unity among the states, highlighting the shared experiences of insecurity faced by the entire region.
The Plateau State governor also raised concerns about the deteriorating condition of certain roads, which he believed contributed to the vulnerability of the region. He appealed to the Federal Government to intervene in improving the roads, emphasizing the critical role they played in ensuring security.
During the visit, the North Central governors collectively donated N100 million towards addressing the aftermath of the attacks, demonstrating their commitment to supporting Plateau State during these challenging times.
