On Thursday, the City of London Magistrates’ Court ruled in favor of Nwoko, ordering the release of $1,199,965 that had been frozen in an account belonging to one Keith Davies. The funds had been transferred by Nwoko through a middleman, Abubakar, who subsequently passed the money to Davies, a self-proclaimed broker. The authorities had frozen the funds amid a dispute over ownership, but the court ultimately ruled that Nwoko was the rightful owner.
In an address to the press in Abuja over the weekend, Nwoko explained that he took the case to court not only to reclaim his money but to challenge the negative perception of Nigerians abroad. He emphasized that Nigerians are not inherently dishonest and that there are many credible, sincere, and God-fearing people in the country.
Nwoko also warned Nigerians to exercise caution when investing in certain platforms, noting that while negative stereotypes about Nigerians persist globally, there are many individuals who, like him, are committed to integrity.
The Senator shared that he was able to defend his case remotely from Nigeria, without the need to travel to London. He confirmed that the funds would be released to his legal team within seven days of the ruling.
Looking ahead, Nwoko expressed his intention to reinvest the recovered funds into malaria vaccine research, a cause he has long been passionate about. He also revealed plans to push for the establishment of an agency dedicated to vaccine research and development in Nigeria. “As a serving Senator, I am committed to advancing this bill into law to ensure that Nigeria has a dedicated body for managing and investing in vaccine research,” he said.
