In a statement issued to mark Nigeria’s 63rd independence anniversary, Governor Obaseki called on Nigerians to maintain their unity and work together, both in prayer and through concerted efforts, to overcome the nation’s present economic difficulties.
He remarked, “My fellow citizens of Edo State, I am pleased to celebrate the 63rd independence anniversary of our beloved country, Nigeria, with you. Today is a moment for introspection—a time to pause and contemplate our collective journey as a people and a nation.
It’s an occasion to celebrate our accomplishments, acknowledge the hurdles we face, and reaffirm our commitment to building a more united, progressive, and prosperous Nigeria.”
“Our history is marked by bravery, resilience, sacrifice, and the unwavering spirit of our people. Our founding fathers, driven by a vision of unity and shared prosperity, tirelessly fought to lay the foundation of our nation.
They freed us from the chains of colonialism, setting us on the path to nationhood and greatness,” Governor Obaseki added.
He went on to acknowledge that, despite the achievements over the past 63 years, Nigeria faces various challenges related to the economy, security, politics, and ethnicity. However, he praised the enduring faith and belief in the unity and progress of the country that have kept Nigerians united.
Governor Obaseki also commended the tenacity and determination of Nigerians who continue to strive for their livelihoods daily, especially in the face of the current economic realities.
