Presenting the cheques on the hospital’s premises, Obi emphasized that the funds were intended to address critical needs within the hospital and support various health interventions. The generous donation comprised $50,000, which he mobilized through his friend, Dr. Philip Ozuah, a renowned New York-based pediatrician, along with his personal contribution of N15 million.
Expressing his longstanding advocacy for support in vital sectors like health and education, Obi applauded Dr. Ozuah for his positive intervention. He acknowledged the challenges faced by institutions like the one managed by the Immaculate Heart Sisters, emphasizing their lack of government subvention and their commitment to treating individuals, including the financially challenged.
Obi stated, “I have been doing this for years, and I will continue to offer my support for this. I will always support institutions that are well managed like the Immaculate Heart of Mary Specialist Hospital, managed by the Immaculate Heart Sisters. They have proved to be effective managers of funds since my relationship with them over the years.”
He expressed gratitude to the Immaculate Heart Sisters for their impactful work in critical areas such as developmental health, education, and poverty alleviation. Obi pledged to continue advocating and seeking support for them, highlighting Dr. Philip Ozuah’s significant contribution of $50,000 and his personal donation of N15 million.
Rev. Mother Maureen Akabogu, the Proprietor of the Immaculate Heart Hospital, thanked Obi for his generous donation and consistent support since the hospital’s inception. She noted the positive impact the funds would have on executing crucial projects and supporting the hospital’s charitable activities, including helping indigent patients with their medical bills.
Rev. Sister Maria-Nkiruka Okafor, the Chief Executive Officer of Immaculate Heart Hospital, expressed gratitude for Obi and Ozuah’s donation, emphasizing its potential to enhance healthcare services for both affluent and underprivileged patients. She appealed for further assistance from individuals with goodwill, underscoring the hospital’s commitment to prioritizing saving lives over financial considerations.
