ODIEC Expresses Concern Over Disappointing Voter Turnout In Ondo LG Polls

The Chairman of the Ondo State Independent Electoral Commission (ODIEC), Joseph Aremo, has expressed disappointment over the low voter turnout recorded during Saturday’s local government elections in the state.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Speaking after monitoring the electoral process in Akure South, Akure North, and Ifedore local government areas, Aremo described the turnout as “disheartening” and called on political parties to ramp up voter sensitization efforts for future elections.

Aremo acknowledged the commission’s proactive measures in preparing for the polls, including the early distribution of both sensitive and non-sensitive materials to ensure a smooth electoral process.

“Despite our best efforts to ensure early deployment and seamless operations, the turnout was disappointing. We hope political parties will make greater efforts to educate the public ahead of future elections,” Aremo stated.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police in Ondo State, Wilfred Afolabi, praised the peaceful conduct of residents during the elections. Afolabi, who monitored the exercise in Akure metropolis, lauded the people for their cooperation and urged them to maintain the peaceful environment.

“The peaceful participation of voters today is commendable. We did not observe any security issues, and this reflects the community’s dedication to maintaining peace,” he said.
