Senator Kalu emphasized the importance of restoring peace to the region to accelerate the nation’s productivity. He highlighted that many items currently produced in China and other foreign countries could be manufactured in the South East if security was guaranteed.

He made these remarks during an interview with Arise News on Saturday, where he also advocated for efforts to expedite the release of Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) leader, Nnamdi Kanu.

The All Progressives Congress (APC) lawmaker noted that President Bola Tinubu would advance to the second phase of his administration’s policies once insecurity is resolved.

“President Tinubu will move forward. Rome wasn’t built in a day. We are currently addressing insurgency in our region, and gradually, we are progressing. Once we stabilize and eliminate insurgents, banditry, and other disturbances, we can then move to the second phase—development,” he stated.

Kalu stressed that the South East requires a peaceful atmosphere, reliable electricity, and sound policies to fully leverage its economic potential. Additionally, he urged IPOB’s lawyers and the judiciary to speed up legal proceedings for Nnamdi Kanu’s release.

“We have consistently urged the president to handle the situation within the confines of the Nigerian law. We believe that with time, Nnamdi Kanu will be released, and we can focus on fostering economic development,” he added.
