The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, has called for a shift in strategy to combat banditry in Nigeria, advocating for offensive military operations targeting the criminals’ forest hideouts.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Ganduje made the call on Tuesday during a condolence visit to Niger State Governor, Mohammed Umaru Bago, following the tragic tanker explosion at Dikko Junction, Suleja.
In a statement released by his Chief Press Secretary, Edwin Olofu, Ganduje praised Governor Bago’s efforts in tackling criminal activities in Niger State and creating public awareness about the dangers of fuel scooping during accidents.
“We are here to pray for our friend, our brother, and the good people of Niger State. We sincerely condole with the families of the deceased, the injured, and the entire state,” he said.
Drawing from his experience as the former Governor of Kano State, Ganduje stressed the importance of taking proactive measures to address the banditry menace.
“Your Excellency, the key to addressing this challenge is to conquer the forests. Bandits operate from these forests, so why are we staying defensive instead of taking the fight to them?” he questioned.
He highlighted the success of his administration in Kano, where the military took over Falgore Forest to establish a training ground, effectively displacing bandits and ensuring peace in the region.
“Niger State, with its vast landmass and numerous forests, faces significant security challenges. To overcome this, offensive action is essential,” Ganduje concluded.
