Olubadan Oba Ladoja Steps Away From Politics, Explains Why

The Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rasidi Adewolu Ladoja, has officially stepped away from politics.

The former Oyo State governor made the announcement on Tuesday during a courtesy visit from notable figures including Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) 2023 presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar, ex-Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai, former Senate President Iyorchia Ayu, and other dignitaries.

Reflecting on his political journey and past collaborations with Atiku and other leaders, Ladoja explained that his decision to quit politics stems from his new role as Olubadan.

He emphasized that his focus would now be on justice and fairness throughout his reign: “I am no longer one of you; I am not a politician anymore. Welcome to my house. Now that I am the Olubadan, my only concern is the Olubadan institution. You are welcome here.

“We began in the SDP, were in exile together, later joined the PDP, and when I sought to establish my identity, I moved to the Accord Party, which became well-known here. I understand how politicians often return, but my path is different now.

“All religious leaders have reminded me that our primary duty is to promote justice and fairness. I will serve my people—Ibadan, Oyo State, Africa, and the wider world—and I will rely on your guidance and support.”
