He challenged the legality of such a law in Anambra State, arguing that the ban would violate Christians’ right to spread their faith.
“Many people may not fully grasp the extent to which their religious freedom has been restricted by this outright ban imposed by the State Governor. This declaration criminalizes all forms of public preaching, including crusades and outreach programs that previously took place outside church premises, under an unspecified ‘law’ cited by the Governor.”
He continued, “Instead of an outright ban, the Governor should have focused on regulating and moderating public preaching to address the alleged noise pollution, which he claims as the reason for the ban.”
The lawyer also stated, “Governor Chukwuma Soludo appears overwhelmed by the many critical issues facing the state. How does the ongoing insecurity in Anambra relate to peaceful gospel preachers spreading the word of God? These individuals are simply fulfilling their spiritual and biblical duties, calling people to faith.”
He reminded the Governor that policies should be based on fairness, justice, and respect for people’s rights, urging that the ban be reconsidered.
“In a democratic society, policies must reflect justice, fairness, and respect for rights. The ban on public preaching sets a dangerous precedent and must be reconsidered. True leadership is about building, not suppressing; securing, not silencing,” he concluded.
