In a statement released on Friday through its state spokesperson, Kennedy Ikantu Peretei, the Ondo PDP asserted that the governor should promptly return to Akure, emphasizing that Ibadan is not the state’s capital city.
The PDP raised concerns that Governor Akeredolu’s governance from Oyo might be an attempt to thwart a potential impeachment process.
The statement pointed out that the governor’s decision to conduct meetings in his Ibadan residence, even ordering the upgrading of the residence to include a replica of the Executive Council Chambers, is raising speculations and questions regarding his intentions.
The Ondo PDP questioned whether Governor Akeredolu intends to establish Ibadan as the capital of Ondo State and challenged the haste with which he resumed official duties without returning to Ondo State.
The party advised Governor Akeredolu to take another medical leave if he is still not fit for office, rather than attempting to govern the state from Oyo.
The governor had previously vowed upon his return to Nigeria that, by the grace of God, he would “be alive” to complete his tenure, which is set to end in February 2025.
