Only Chinese People Allowed – Black Man Alleges Hotel Denied Him Accommodation In China

A man has sparked widespread reactions on social media after alleging that a hotel in China refused to accommodate him because of his race.

In a video circulating online, the man expressed disappointment over the experience, claiming that hotel staff informed him that the establishment was reserved exclusively for Chinese nationals.

Narrating the incident, he said he was shocked when he was allegedly denied the opportunity to check in simply because he was Black.

“Guys, I came to China and this hotel refused to let me check in because I’m Black. They said it’s only for Chinese people. For God’s sake,” he stated.

The identity of the hotel and the exact circumstances surrounding the alleged incident have not been independently established.

The video, which was shared on X, formerly known as Twitter, has generated mixed reactions, with some users condemning the alleged treatment as discriminatory, while others advised the traveller to seek accommodation at another hotel.

Reacting to the development, a social media user identified as Tosin criticised the alleged treatment and suggested that Nigerians should respond similarly when Chinese visitors come to the country.

Another commenter, Ace, advised the man to leave the establishment rather than prolong the confrontation, while suggesting that the conduct of a country’s citizens could influence how people from that country are perceived abroad.

A user identified as Emma also urged Nigerians to improve the country’s international image, suggesting that concerns about crime and public conduct could contribute to negative perceptions of Nigerian travellers.

However, another commenter, Supreme, argued that the man should simply find another hotel, adding that some establishments in certain countries operate restrictions based on cultural or local preferences. The user also questioned whether the traveller was familiar with China’s accommodation practices.

Similarly, Penelope pointed out that some cultural establishments in Asian countries reportedly restrict access to non-locals, advising the man not to focus solely on the alleged rejection.

The incident has reignited online discussions about racial discrimination, the treatment of African travellers abroad and the importance of ensuring that visitors are treated fairly regardless of their nationality or skin colour.
