Oredo felt a deeper heartbeat this week, as the Honourable Member representing Oredo Federal Constituency, Hon. Engr. Esosa Iyawe, FNSE, brought hundreds of schoolchildren together under a powerful cultural awakening that left many visibly moved.
Partnering with the National Institute for Cultural Orientation (NICO), Hon. Iyawe hosted the 2025 Edition of his Cultural Orientation and Sensitization Programme for Junior and Senior Secondary Schools in the constituency — an initiative that continues to spark pride, curiosity, and renewed cultural consciousness among young people.
With the theme “The Role of Language in Preserving Cultural Heritage,” the event wasn’t just another civic gathering; it was a call to the soul of Oredo. A reminder that language is not merely a tool of communication but the living archive of a people’s history, values, and spiritual identity.
Students took the stage, speaking native tongues with pride that electrified the hall. From rich proverbs to folk expressions, from storytelling to cultural displays, the young participants proved — beyond any doubt — that Oredo’s future custodians are ready.
Hon. Iyawe, visibly inspired by the brilliance of the students, said the programme reinforces a truth Oredo has always known: when a child understands their language, they understand themselves.
He celebrated the participants, especially the winners who distinguished themselves through knowledge, creativity, and passion for cultural preservation.
“These children have shown that our heritage is in safe and capable hands,” Hon. Iyawe declared, reaffirming his commitment to nurturing the cultural, educational, and developmental growth of Oredo’s young generation.
The programme ended on an emotional high — with students, teachers, parents, and cultural advocates rising in applause, visibly united in one shared conviction: Oredo’s culture is not fading; it is rising again.
