He stated, “First and foremost, I am qualified and competent to be president. Our political party already has a candidate unless he decides not to run. If the party offers me the opportunity to represent them, it’s a privilege, not just a personal desire. My primary interest in 2027 is to return to the Senate and contribute as a lawmaker.”

Addressing the current economic challenges in Nigeria, Kalu emphasized that the country suffers from a lack of organized economic processes. He suggested that the government should focus on reducing expenditures.

Kalu noted that President Tinubu is working to restore institutional strength, acknowledging that his decisions may have mixed outcomes. He said, “Globally, we are facing deflation, and Nigeria’s situation is dire due to our disorganized economy. We’ve lacked a solid economic structure for over 60 years, with inadequate infrastructure and a nascent stock exchange. President Tinubu is striving to rebuild our institutions to ensure they are robust.”

He added, “Continuing with handouts in a weak economy isn’t sustainable; tough decisions must be made. The question remains: Are the Nigerian people suffering? Yes. But the situation is exacerbated by a lack of decisive action.”

Kalu called for government austerity, suggesting that officials should “tailor spending to our means,” which includes scaling back on unnecessary expenditures and foreign aid.
