The PDP’s reaction follows statements from Tony Okocha, the APC factional chairman recognized by the party’s national leadership, who insisted that Fubara must resign or face impeachment.
During a press briefing in Port Harcourt, Okocha declared, “The APC remains the major opposition party in Rivers State. We are the voice of the voiceless. When we said Fubara is clueless, we were not joking. The evidence is clear.” He also dismissed Fubara’s recent invitation to lawmakers for a peace meeting, calling it “inconsequential.”
PDP to APC: ‘Focus on National Issues, Not Political Distractions’
Responding to the APC’s stance, PDP National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, in an interview with Punch, urged the opposition to prioritize national challenges instead of fueling political crises in Rivers State.
Ologunagba also criticized Okocha, stating that he should first resolve leadership disputes within the APC before interfering in Fubara’s administration.
“The man you are talking about has a lot of issues to deal with, including his claim to the chairmanship of the APC in Rivers State. All we can say is that he is hallucinating—living in a dream world, and we can’t stop him from dreaming,” he said.
He further emphasized that impeachment is a constitutional process, not a decision one makes on a whim.
Ologunagba also challenged the APC leadership to focus on critical national issues affecting Nigerians, stating, “Instead of targeting Governor Fubara, Okocha should help his party address the economic hardship they have inflicted on Nigerians.”
