Osun Election Drama: Adeleke Team DISMISSES Imumolen’s Endorsement Of APC Rival!

The Imole Campaign Council has rejected the endorsement of the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, by Christopher Imumolen, arguing that he does not represent the recognised leadership of the Accord Party.

The campaign council maintained that Maxwell Mgbudem, the Accord National Chairman recognised by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), remains firmly committed to supporting the re-election bid of Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke.

The council made its position known in a statement issued on Thursday by its spokesperson, Pelumi Olajengbesi, following Imumolen’s appearance at the APC mega rally in Osogbo.

Imumolen, who identified himself as the national chairman of Accord, had declared his support for Oyebamiji and called on members of the party in Osun State to vote for the APC candidate in Saturday’s governorship election.

However, in a statement titled “Accord Party Chairman Didn’t Endorse Oyebamiji,” the Adeleke campaign dismissed the declaration, accusing the APC of misrepresenting Imumolen’s position within the Accord Party.

The council described Imumolen’s appearance at the APC rally as an attempt to create a false impression about the party’s position ahead of the election.

It said, “The attention of The Imole Campaign Council has been drawn to a show of shame staged by the All Progressives Congress today in Osogbo, Osun State, where the APC recruited a fake entity and an impersonator to endorse its candidate for the August 15, 2026 governorship election, Bola Oyebamiji.”

The statement further alleged that Imumolen had wrongly presented himself as the leader of a faction of the Accord Party while endorsing Oyebamiji.

The campaign council stressed that Imumolen’s declaration should not be regarded as the official position of Accord ahead of the election.

Olajengbesi maintained that the party’s officially recognised leadership remained in support of Adeleke’s re-election.

He said, “To put the records straight, the officially recognised National Chairman of the Accord Party by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, is Barrister Maxwell Obinali Mgbudem, who is solidly behind Governor Ademola Adeleke’s re-election and continuity in Osun State.”

According to the campaign council, Mgbudem has neither endorsed Oyebamiji nor withdrawn his support for Adeleke, insisting that he remains committed to the Accord governorship candidate.

Imumolen Declares Support for Oyebamiji

Speaking earlier at the APC mega rally in Osogbo, Imumolen announced that Accord had withdrawn its support for Governor Adeleke.

He subsequently directed members of the party to back Oyebamiji at the polls, expressing confidence that the APC candidate would emerge victorious.

The Imole Campaign Council, however, described the development as an attempt by the opposition to mislead voters and create confusion over Accord’s position in the election.

The council alleged that the APC resorted to the move because of concerns over its prospects in Saturday’s poll.

It reiterated that Mgbudem, whom it identified as Accord’s INEC-recognised national chairman, remains firmly behind Adeleke and would not endorse the APC candidate.

The campaign organisation therefore urged Osun residents to disregard Imumolen’s endorsement and what it described as misleading claims coming from the opposition.

The council expressed confidence that voters across the state would turn out in large numbers on Saturday to support Adeleke’s bid for a second term.

The Osun State governorship election is scheduled for Saturday, August 15, 2026.
