In a statement provided to DAILY POST on Sunday in Osogbo, State Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Kolapo Alimi, refuted the allegations, affirming that Adeleke has not collected any security votes, consistent with his commitment upon taking office.
Adeleke, who assumed office on November 27, 2022, had previously pledged that his administration would forgo security votes. Alimi accused opposition parties of spreading misinformation due to their inability to critique the governor’s notable performance.
He suggested that the false claims likely stemmed from the opposition’s misunderstanding or deliberate misrepresentation of state expenditures intended for supporting security agencies, including the Police and the Department of State Services (DSS).
“The state government provides statutory support for security agencies during operations, such as managing communal violence, joint security actions, and responses to mass demonstrations,” Alimi explained. “These expenditures are formally documented and approved, distinguishing them from security votes, which do not undergo such scrutiny.”
He further clarified that security votes are often seen as discretionary funds, lacking formal accountability, whereas the funds approved by Governor Adeleke for security services are properly processed through the office of the Special Adviser on Security Matters.
“The governor only allocates funds to address security needs as necessary, with records maintained to justify such expenditures, unlike previous administrations that treated these funds as unaccountable resources.”
Alimi reiterated that while the administration welcomes constructive criticism, it should be approached responsibly.
