This response comes in reaction to calls by the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state for Governor Ademola Adeleke to reverse the appointment of Hashim Abioye as the Chairman of the Osun State Independent Electoral Commission (OSSIEC).
In a statement signed by its chairman, Sunday Bisi, the Osun PDP asserted that the appointments made by Governor Adeleke are consistently based on merit, capacity, and undeniable competence.
The statement highlighted that many of Adeleke’s appointees, including cabinet members, are chosen for their skills, capacity, and professionalism, rather than purely political considerations.
The PDP further addressed the criticism from the Osun APC, led by Chairman Tajudeen Lawal, regarding Abioye’s appointment.
The APC contended that there is a lack of independence in the commission’s activities, aside from its nomenclature.
However, the PDP countered that appointments into statutory boards, including OSSIEC, adhere to the same principles of merit and professionalism.
It’s worth noting that Hashim Abioye, the recently appointed OSSIEC Chairman, previously held a position as a PDP chieftain and served as the Special Adviser on Legal Matters to Governor Adeleke.
The Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC) in the state also expressed dissatisfaction with Abioye’s appointment, asserting that it violates the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
