Last week, the federal government disclosed the allocation of an N180 billion palliative fund to states to mitigate the impact of fuel subsidy removal.

In a statement released on Monday, August 21, Governor Adeleke elucidated that Osun State has yet to receive the complete shipments from the promised first and second batches of palliative items.

The Governor stated that while the state awaits the delivery of the final truck containing 600 bags of rice from the first batch, nothing has been received from the second batch of palliatives. According to the statement issued by the Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Hon Kolapo Alimi, the upcoming second batch comprises 14,516 bags of 50kg rice and 3,200 metric tons of maize.

The federal government team’s message was quoted in the statement as follows: “We hereby wish to inform you that the second batch of federal government food palliative distribution is poised to commence as soon as possible, and you are scheduled to receive 14,516 bags of 50kg rice and 3,200MT of maize.”

Commissioner Alimi emphasized that this update aims to keep the public informed about the status of the palliative distribution. He also clarified that a truck containing 600 bags of rice is still pending from the first batch.

Furthermore, the statement revealed that the state government is finalizing a distribution template to ensure equitable sharing among all segments of society.

The government’s objective is to achieve complete delivery before embarking on the distribution process, promising transparency and accountability in the fair allocation of the food supplies to the citizens.
