Governor Otti, in a statement issued on Saturday, disclosed that he has already activated a series of measures—previously agreed upon with top-ranking national authorities—to work toward Kanu’s eventual release, even as the legal process continues. He confirmed that details of these engagements were conveyed to Kanu during his visit to the Department of State Services (DSS) facility in Abuja.

According to Otti, “While Mazi Nnamdi Kanu reserves the right to appeal his conviction, I am pleased to inform you that the agreed strategy for securing his freedom has been set in motion and will be sustained until the objective is achieved.”

Meanwhile, the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs and former Ambassador to Spain, Ambassador Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, has expressed strong dissatisfaction with the judgment that sent Kanu to prison for life. She described the verdict as a distressing setback for the South-East region and emphasized that it fell far short of the expectations of many Igbo people.

Calling for calm, the minister cautioned that any inflammatory reaction could heighten tensions both within Nigeria and across the diaspora.
